Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Morabadi, Ranchi and District Agriculture Office, Ranchi jointly organized a “One Day Kharif Workshop” on 30th July 2019 to discuss about various possible interventions under the scenario of late monsoon in Ranchi District. District and block level officials and progressive Farmers, from different villages of the district were the main stakeholders in the workshop. Programme was started with the lightening of the lamp by the respected guests. The main objective of the workshop was to introduce farmers to various promising technologies and projects of state as well as central government running in the district under the present context of changing climate. Dr Ajeet Kumar Singh, Programme Coordinator, Divyayan KVK, Morabadi, Ranchi welcomed the guests and suggested use of short duration paddy varieties and taking oil seeds and pulse crops in uplands instead of traditional practice of rice cultivation.
Revered Swami Bhaveshananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Morabadi, Ranchi, in his presidential speech described the benefits of organic farming to increase the water holding capacity of soil as well as crop yield in current scenario of rain water deficit. He also described about 5 per cent rain water harvesting in field model. Mentioning various inspiring lines of Swami Vivekananda he suggested farmers to work hard and seek opportunities in the adverse conditions to ensure their maximum possible contribution to food security to each and every person of the nation.
District Agriculture Officer, Shri Ashok Kumar Sinha gave farmers all the necessary information about the various government schemes like Mukhyamantri Krishi Ashirvad Yojana, Soil testing, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayi Yojana, Parati Bhoomi Yojana, Fasal Beema Yojana etc. He appealed all the farmers and concerned officials present in the workshop to register all the farmers in these schemes as soon as possible. Further, he also made farmers aware about the current situation of water scarcity and various measures to save water in agriculture system under Central Government Initiative of Jal Shakti Abhiyan.
District Cooperative Officer, Ranchi, Different officials of District Agriculture Office, all scientists of Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Block Technology Managers of all blocks of Ranchi District and about 150 progressive farmers from different villages of Ranchi District were present in the workshop. Besides, about 50 students of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University also attended workshop to understand ground level agricultural issues of Ranchi District.
Different Subject Matter Specialists of Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra also made farmers aware about various on farm issues occurring in present season and their solutions like Dr Rajesh Kumar, Subject Matter Specialist, Plant Protection described about major insect pests of kharif crops and related control measures. Sri Manoj Kumar Singh, Subject Matter Specialist, Agronomy elaborated different technologies to tackle the problems of cereal, pulses and oil seed crops resulting due to late monsoon. Dr Bharat Mahato, Subject Matter Specialist, Animal Husbandry given information about various vaccinations to be done in this season as well as benefits of cattle farming, piggery, goatary, poultry, duckery etc. and their promising breeds suitable for Ranchi district. Dr Neha Rajan, Subject Matter Specialist, Genetics and Plant Breeding, suggested suitable varieties and practices of different crops under water scarcity circumstances and Dr Ravindra Kumar Singh, Subject Matter Specialist, Horticulture dealt with various field issues raised by farmers occurring in different horticultural crops. Sri O. P. Sharma focused on rain water conservation through different harvesting techniques.
Various progressive farmers of district namely Baijnath Mahato, , Nand Kishor Sahu, Gandhura Oraon, Vikash Kumar, Bhanu Mahato, Jai Prakash Jaiswal etc. shared their inspiring experiences with other participants and encouraged present farmers to adopt new technologies to boost up their production.
Officials from Reliance foundation also launched their programme of “Audio Advisory Messages” to address their various agricultural problems by sending “Audio Advisory” to their registered mobile numbers.
